SCLA Minutes - San Antonio 2008

FEBRUARY 15, 2008

A meeting of the South Central Llama Association was in held at the San Antonio Rodeo Show in San Antonio, Texas on February 15, 2008.

Jesse Rierson called the meeting to order.  Ouijan Vinson read the minutes of the annual meeting held in Dallas September 30, 2007.  The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer’s report – Bob Lyons.  The Fort Worth sale generated an $8000 profit, which was down from the prior year, but the party cost $2000, so it would have generated $10,000.  Due to the weakening economy, people are not spending as much on llamas.  The prior year also had two bidders bidding on one animal, which helped drive up the prices.

At the end of 2007, there was $80,000 in the bank for both the scholarship fund and SCLA.    Please let Bob know if you want a copy of the financial statements.

The Treasurer’s report was accepted.

Fort Worth Sale - Jim Doyle reported on the Fort Worth sale.  Everyone had fun at the show and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the sale.  There were some really nice animals, but not enough buyers.

They will try to award both the new ILR points as well as ALSA points at next year’s show.  Please think about animals to sell next year.  They need good support from SCLA members.  Anyone is invited to attend the sale committee meetings.

Library – Barbara Welch.  The library does not have enough use. There are many great publications and videos that could be borrowed.   A tooth cutter that works well for both llamas and alpacas may be rented for $25.  A refundable deposit of $165 is required.

Membership – Karen Conyngham.   SCLA has 124 adult and 36 youth members.  Please renew your membership for $40.  The directory will be published in March.

Nominating Committee - Chuk Guzman is the Nominating  Committee Chair, so let him know if you want to run for a position or be on the committee.

Jesse reported that two Director seats were up for re-election this year:
At Large Director currently held by Bill Feick
Region 1 Director currently held by Mike Summers

Old Business

The Board received a proposal last fall about a fundraiser for SCLA.  Bill and Helen Feick received a donated pasture vacuum worth $3000 that will be raffled.  Tickets are $5 each.    Bill can testify how well it works, either wet or dry (but better dry).  SCLA is trying to raise as much money as possible and there is NO LIMIT on the number of tickets you can buy.  Please contact Bill for tickets.

Jim Doyle, Bev Johnson and Paul Walters are on the ByLaws Committee.  If anyone has a concern, please contact a committee member.  They will try to finalize proposed changes so they can be included on the ballot this summer.

New Business

Jesse welcomed guests and the new Region 4 Director, Julie Burns.

Conroe Show – Ruby Herron thanked everyone who was volunteering for the Conroe show April 25 - 27.  They are putting the FUN back in shows.  This is a NO GROOMING show.  Fines will be issued if you are caught with grooming equipment!  Please let them know if you have any suggestions.

The SCLA obstacle trailer is not going to Nationals in 2008.  We need a volunteer who knows how to design obstacles and is willing to make a three year commitment to take it to Nationals.

There are still two vacant ad spots for the obstacle trailer.  The first time ad is $200 for 2 years then $75 dollars for the next 2 years.  SCLA dues must current to purchase an ad.  Please contact Jim Doyle if you are interested.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Ouijan Vinson
Secretary
